| Adoption of Expedited Examination System of Trademark Application effective as of April, 2009 |
Recently, the Korean Intellectual Property Office announced that they are going to adopt the Expedited
Examination System of Trademark Application from April, 2009.
At present, examination of trademark application has been made according to the order of filing
the application.
In case the filed trademark is now being used or there is a dispute regarding the filed trademark,
the applicant is able to file a Request for an expedited examination with the Korean Intellectual Property
Office. In doing so, the applicant should pay the prescribed fee, in addition to the official filing fee.
Further, the trademark application, for which the expedited examination is requested, will be examined
within two (2) months from the date of filing a Request.
